JOE BIDEN WILL INTERVIEW ILLINOIS SENATOR TAMMY DUCKWORTH AS POTENTIAL VICE PRESIDENTIAL PICK
Illinois Senator Tammy Duckworth is under consideration for Joe Biden's vice presidential pick, according to Illinois' other senator Dick Durbin.
On Friday morning, Durbin said, "I support Tammy Duckworth. She's spectacular, a great colleague and I hope that she fares well in this interview, which I think is going to take place soon." Durbin did not specify on details of the interview.
Former Vice President Biden officially began the search process of selecting his running mate on April 29, who he pledged would be a woman.
The search committee said it will be "a rigorous selection and vetting process."
"Selecting a vice presidential candidate is one of the most important decisions in a presidential campaign and no one knows this more than Joe Biden," campaign manager Jen O'Malley Dillon said in a statement.
Duckworth has served as a senator for the state of Illinois since 2017. The Thai American veteran lost both her legs in Iraq when the Black Hawk helicopter she was piloting was shot down.

Duckworth has been an early supporter of Biden as the Democratic nominee. In recent weeks, she has participated in virtual events for Biden's presidential campaign.
Appearing on MSNBC's Morning Joe, Duckworth said, "I want Joe Biden in the White House, and I trust that he's got a process for putting together the right team to help him do that from the vice president on down to the cabinet members."
Duckworth also addressed the allegations from Tara Reade, a former Senate staff of Biden's who said the then-Delaware senator sexually assaulted her in 1992.
"Any woman who brings, or any man for that matter, who brings forward allegations of abuse, especially in the workplace, deserve to be listened to, and I certainly think that we need to thoroughly look at these allegations," Duckworth said during an appearance on Politico's Women Rule podcast.
California Senator Kamala Harris, a former Democratic candidate for president, is the only name that Biden has publicly confirmed to be in the running for his vice presidential pick. However, other names that have been floated include Senators Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and former Georgia House leader and gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams.
Abrams and Warren have both said they would accept the post if asked, while Whitmer has denied she is campaigning for the job, telling Politico's Playbook that she has submitted no documents to be vetted by Biden's campaign. Klobuchar has not publicly commented.
When asked about being considered for Biden's vice presidential pick, Duckworth told Women Rule, "I'm just proud to have my name mentioned in the same breath as the likes of Kamala Harris or Amy Klobuchar."
On Friday, Durbin expressed full support for Duckworth's consideration. "Let me tell you. If you've got Tammy Duckworth by your side, it's a winning combination whoever you are. She is such an amazing person," he said.
