Editor's Note
I
am proud to have been invited to join the George H. W. Bush Foundation for US-China Relations for the presentation of the inaugural George H. W. Bush Award for Statesmanship in US-China Relations in Atlanta Georgia this month. The award will be presented to President Jimmy Carter, the man responsible for normalizing the relationship between our country and the People’s Republic of China. The George H. W. Bush Award for Statesmanship in US-China Relations recognizes those who have made profound contributions to the development of constructive and mutually beneficial relations between the United States and the People’s Republic of China, and whose actions exemplify the highest attributes and values of true statesmanship, as embodied by the life and legacy of President George H. W. Bush. You can read more about the our 39th President’s enduring contributions to the advancement of US-China relations in this month’s SCBJ cover story.
The 2019 AmCham South China’s Asia Pacific Business Summit in Guangzhou also shared similar views with President Carter that China and the US will be stronger if they work together. The Business Summit was a remarkable learning experience for the more than 400 participants from six continents. Panels and guest speakers discussed a wide range of topics from education and healthcare to biotech and other technological advancements.
This year’s Business Summit concluded in grand fashion with our annual Spring Ball, indeed the most glamourous spring cultural event in Guangzhou. The Garden Hotel Grand Ballroom was decked out to the max in fine style representing this year’s theme “The Greatest Show.” I am always amazed how hard our staff works to make each Ball better than the last. This year was no exception.
I also wanted to give a special shout out to all of our AmCham Youth Baseball League participants. The season may have ended earlier this month, but I think every one of our players continues to be a grand slam in my book.
